Results of AGM

For more than 50 years, Gay Lea Foods has provided a very important processing link between the dairy producer community and consumers. As a co-operative, Gay Lea Foods is a collection of individuals who share a common set of goals and vision. It is a co-operative that is run by, and for our dairy producer members across Ontario.  Today we have almost 1,200 dairy farms that are members of our co-operative, which represents approximately 27% of all dairy farms in the province of Ontario. 

Within the structure of the co-operative, members are eligible to elect Directors and delegates who will represent them and who will help run our co-operative.  Gay Lea Foods currently has a Board of ten Directors and each year a number of these Directors are eligible for re-election.  Andy MacGillivray, as President and CEO, reports to the Board of Directors.

At the Annual General Meeting, held January 20, 2010, Ralph Dietrich was acclaimed as a Director at Large for his sixth three-year term.  At the subsequent Board Meeting, the 4-member executive was elected for the upcoming year.  Mark Hamel was elected to the Chair position of the Board of Directors. Paul Vickers was elected as Vice-Chair of the Board. Director John Ellison was elected to the Board Executive while Past Chair Ralph Dietrich was appointed to the Board Executive. (The past-Chair is automatically a member of the Executive for a one year period).

In addition a number of Directors were elected or acclaimed at our recent Zone Annual meetings held across Ontario in November and December 2009. The results were as follows:

Zone 2 – John Ellison (Listowel, Ont.) was acclaimed as a Director for his sixth three-year term.

Zone 4 – Dick Straathof (Arnprior, Ont.) was elected as a Director for a three-year term to fill the vacant position left with the sudden passing of Director Arie van Lindenberg in September 2009. 

Gay Lea Foods congratulates these individuals on their election and I know we will extend our support to all Directors in their new and continuing roles.
