Ottawa Food Aid Day 2010 a huge success

June 10, 2010

Over $102,000 was raised on the 6th Annual Food Aid day, held Friday, June 4, 2010, on the lawn of Ottawa’s City Hall. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the day go to purchase beef from local farmers that are then distributed to Ottawa’s needy.

Food Aid is a program of the Ottawa Food Bank that purchases beef in order to feed the hungry. Every dollar donated to Food Aid is used to buy and process beef from Ottawa-area farmers - the program boosts the local market for cattle while adding nutritious protein to the diets of needy families.

The monies are raised through a live radiothon hosted by 580 CFRA, a trade show, barbeque and a cow-milking competition. However, this cow-milking competition doesn’t involve Maple the Cow. Gay Lea Foods Co-operative was on hand during the day with chocolate milk and cottage cheese. Member Services Rep, Denis  A. Séguin captured a few photos during the event.
